| In 2006 the city opened a new #3 fire station to replace an old building. The station was the second of two new stations within the past four years. In 2004 the city built a new station on Hwy 49 South next to the new community center. The Fire Department conducts building inspections and preplans of all the commercial buildings in the city. The information gathered from these inspections is used in the event that they should have to respond to an incident at any of the locations. Working with industry, nursing homes and other businesses, the Fire Department trained over 600 people in the area of fire safety and fire extinguisher use. Each year near Fire Safety week the Fire Department hosts approximately 2000 3rd and 4th grade students in Northeast Arkansas and Southeast Missouri in the Arkansas Fire Safety House, a mobile facility used to teach children how to prevent fires, as well as get out safely if a fire were to occur in their home. All during the year we visit with daycares, schools and numerous scouting groups to talk about fire safety. The Paragould Fire Department consists of 25 Full time firefighters and one relief driver. They train many hours to keep all members as Arkansas Certified Firefighters. The department is trained to the Operations level for Hazardous Materials response, as well as having nine Hazmat technicians and equipment to perform confined space rescue if necessary. The Paragould Fire Department has four fire stations, six engines, one ladder truck, one rescue truck, one tanker/pumper, one brush truck, two hazmat response vehicles, a mobile communications trailer and has a new engine on order to be placed at the new #3 station. The City of Paragould Fire Department Has a Class 3 fire rating. With the support of the citizens of Paragould, City Council and the Mayor the Fire Department has been very fortunate to be able to add new fire trucks new fire stations and keep the most up to date firefighting equipment available. |
